317L is a low carbon, high molybdenum austenitic stainless steel with a higher nickel alloy content than 316L. 317L has higher creep strength, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures than other austenitic stainless steels.

Description:
317L is a low carbon, high molybdenum austenitic stainless steel with a higher nickel alloy content than 316L. 317L has higher creep strength, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures than other austenitic stainless steels.
With higher molybdenum and chromium contents than stainless steel grades such as 304 or 316, 317L offers excellent corrosion resistance and is resistant to pitting/crevice corrosion from phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, and chlorides. The low carbon content of the 317 grade also provides resistance to sensitization during welding, which allows it to maintain corrosion resistance at grain boundaries and prevent intergranular stress corrosion cracking.
While 317L cannot be hardened by heat treatment, it can be cold worked.
