Description:

316L stainless steel is an austenitic alloy. It stands out for its enhanced corrosion resistance compared to 304/304L stainless steel, especially in halide environments and to various reducing acids such as sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The low carbon variant 316L is the preferred choice for welded structures to prevent chromium carbide precipitation, thus ensuring excellent corrosion resistance after welding.

316L stainless steel effectively resists atmospheric corrosion, moderate oxidizing and marine environments, while maintaining strong resistance to intergranular corrosion in the welded condition. 316L is known for its great strength and toughness at low temperatures, and remains non-magnetic when annealed, but can exhibit slight magnetism after extensive cold working.
