Compared with Q235A and Q235B, its core advantage lies in stricter chemical composition control and better low-temperature impact toughness. "Q" in the grade represents yield strength, "235" means that the lower limit of yield strength is 235MPa, and "C" indicates that its quality grade is C grade, which must meet the impact toughness requirements under 0℃ conditions, significantly improving the service safety of the material in low temperature environments.
Q235C has stronger environmental adaptability. Its welding performance is better than that of grade A and B steels. It can be welded by submerged arc welding, gas shielded welding and other processes. The preheating temperature before welding is relatively low, and the embrittlement tendency of the heat affected zone after welding is small. It is often used in key welding parts such as pressure vessel shells and port machinery components. In terms of cold processing performance, the material can be formed by cold bending, stamping and other processes. The 180° cold bending test with a bending core diameter equal to the thickness of the specimen is qualified, meeting the manufacturing needs of complex structural parts. According to the standard, the lower limit of Q235C's working temperature can reach -20℃ (specific requirements need to be combined with design specifications), and it is widely used in outdoor steel structures, refrigeration equipment brackets and other fields in cold northern regions.
According to national standards, Q235C is usually supplied in a hot-rolled state, and iron oxide is allowed to exist on the surface. It can also be sandblasted or pickled according to demand. In addition to conventional tensile and bending tests, quality inspection must perform a 0℃ impact test, and ultrasonic flaw detection or magnetic particle testing must be performed to ensure that there are no major defects inside the material. Compared with Q235B, its production cost increases by about 8%-12%, but it still has an economic advantage compared to Q235D steel that requires -20℃ impact performance guarantee.
