Q235A carbon steel is the most widely used common carbon structural steel in my country, belonging to the low carbon steel category specified in the GB/T 700 standard. The "Q" in the steel grade represents the yield strength, "235" indicates that its lower limit of yield strength is 235MPa, and "A" refers to the A grade in the quality grade, which has relatively low requirements for impact toughness.
In practical applications, the welding performance of Q235A is particularly outstanding, and a variety of welding processes such as conventional arc welding and gas shielded welding can be used, and no complex heat treatment is required after welding. In the cold bending test, the 180° bending test is qualified, and the bending core diameter is allowed to be equal to the thickness of the specimen, which provides the possibility for complex forming of steel structural parts. However, it should be noted that since the impact toughness of grade A steel is not guaranteed, it should be used with caution when the working temperature is below 0℃. If necessary, higher grades of Q235B or Q235D can be selected.
According to national standard requirements, the supply state of Q235A is usually hot-rolled, and the surface can present unique iron oxide characteristics. In terms of quality control, in addition to conventional mechanical property testing, fracture inspection and low-magnification microstructure inspection are also required to ensure the internal quality of the material.
Compared with similar materials, Q235A has obvious advantages in cost-effectiveness. Its market price is usually about 15%-20% lower than that of high-quality carbon structural steel, but its corrosion resistance and low-temperature toughness are relatively weak, and the surface usually requires protective treatment such as galvanizing and painting.
