316Ti stainless steel is a variant of the 316 series austenitic stainless steel. This type of steel contains a small amount of titanium, making it more corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant than similar steels.
The "Ti" in 316Ti represents titanium, which combines with carbon to form titanium carbide, helping to stabilize the material from sensitization. Sensitization refers to the process by which chromium rich grains are depleted from the microstructure of the metal at high temperatures, making them susceptible to corrosion.
In addition, compared to other grades such as 304 or 321 alloys, 316Ti stainless steel is non-magnetic and has excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
